Cross River Government Reinstates Ban On Motorcycle In Calabar

By Able Winnard

The Cross River State Government has reinstated the total ban on the use of motorcycles along major highways and some roads in the Calabar metropolis.

In a press release signed and made available by the Commissioner for Information in the State, Erasmus Ekpang, quoting the statement of the State Security Adviser, Major General O. U. Obono (Rtd), reminding motorcycle riders in Calabar to restrict their movements to designated routes, adding that defaulters shall be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Recall that in June 2023, the Government re-echoed a total ban on commercial motorcycles in the metropolis.

The State Security Adviser said the reminder has become imperative given the flagrant disobedience to the law by some motorcycle operators in the metropolis, noting that criminals have in recent times resorted to using motorbikes to rob innocent citizens.

Major General Obono urged security operatives who are on essential duties using motorcycles to be properly dressed in their uniforms to avoid being embarrassed while on duty.

He directed all concerned to obey the rules guiding motorcycle operations in Calabar as defaulters shall be apprehended and their motorcycles impounded.

He warned that the practice where defaulters throng his office to solicit for the release of seized motorcycles shall no longer be tolerated under any guise.
