Information reaching our newsroom has it that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Professor Augustine Oko Angba, has been suspended.
The embattled Prof. Angba is suspended by the varsity Governing Council on Monday, May 6th, 2024, during the school’s Governing Council meeting held at the main campus, Calabar.
A reliable source in the school told CrossRiverWatch that he is alleged to have engaged in misconduct and other mismanagement in the institution.
Professor Oshang of the Faculty of Agriculture will take over from him pending when Angba’s suspension is lifted.
Recall that the suspended VC has come under fire following protests, petitions, and others, calling for his resignation.
One of those agitations was a group of solicitors under the auspices of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association, which had written officially to the institution’s Governing Council, requesting some key records from the institution under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011.

The group warned that failure to respond to their prayers would amount to a legal journey.

Professor Angba who has 17 months left in his tenure as Vice Chancellor, did not answer calls to his phone as at press time. However, reports suggest the Council is still sitting.
Sources say the allies of the Visitor, Senator Bassey Otu were not comfortable with the way Professor Angba was operating and have been seeking a way to remove him legitimately.
However, many kicked against it with some even alleging that he sponsored the position of the Alumni Association led by Dr. Inyali Peter to seek the dissolution of the Governing Council led by the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, Utsu Felix Okudare.
The matter turned out to be a media battle with conflicting narratives shared by the parties involved.
