The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended all final year students from three departments for violating the institution’s directive on reckless driving, flying of colors, and wild celebrations after examinations.
The affected departments include Environmental Protection and Management, Microbiology, and Mass Communication.
According to a memo signed by the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, the students’ actions went against a circular issued on August 7, 2024, which banned such activities.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, expressed disappointment and directed the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, to suspend processing of the affected students’ results pending investigation.
A Special Management Committee has been set up to investigate the matter and make recommendations to the Management.
The Deans of the affected faculties have been directed to ensure full compliance with the directive.
The suspension aims to maintain discipline and order within the university community.
