The Council of Traditional Rulers in Usumutong Community, Abi Local Government Area, have conferred an honorary chieftaincy title on Iwara Inah, a former domestic aide to ex-Governor Liyel Imoke.
Iwara was honored with the title of ‘Ovai Ikpareh 1 of Usumutong,’ which translates to ‘Problem Solver of Usumutong.’ The title was conferred in recognition of his positive impact and immense contributions to the development of Usumutong and the Bahumonoh Nation.
The event took place over the weekend as part of the 2024 Usumutong New Yam Festival and saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including Hon. Alex Egbona, member representing Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency; Cross River Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi; President of the Physiological Society of Nigeria Prof. Eme Osim; Paramount Rulers of Biase, Etung and Obanliku LGAs among others.
In his address during the ceremony at Aji Playground in Usumutong, HRM Amb. Solomon Edward, the Paramount Ruler of Abi LGA and Chairman of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council praised Mr. Iwara’s dedication to community development. He highlighted Iwara’s efforts in initiating self-sustaining projects and called on other sons and daughters of the community to emulate his example by engaging in collaborative development efforts.
“We are using this festival to bestow a title on an illustrious son of this community, Iwara Inah. He is a performer and has distinguished himself in various fields. His contributions are evident, as you can see from the crowd and the joy of the people. My message to our sons and daughters is to follow his example and work together to make Usumutong great.”
The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Eme Osim, shared similar sentiments, stating that Hon. Iwara’s contributions to the community are unparalleled. He encouraged others to follow in his footsteps and engage in philanthropic activities that enhance the socio-economic well-being of the community.
“Hon. Iwara has distinguished himself and truly deserves this honor. He is a young man with a large heart, committed to the development of our community. I urge the youth of Usumutong to follow the examples set by those of us who have contributed to this community’s growth so that they too can be awarded,” Prof. Osim remarked.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Iwara Inah poured out his heart to the Usumutong Community and the Council of Traditional Rulers for the recognition and pledged to double his efforts towards the development of the Usumutong community.
“I feel deeply honored and humbled to be awarded this chieftaincy title. It’s a recognition that not only inspires me but strengthens my resolve to remain dedicated to the continued progress and development of Usumutong and the entire Bahumonoh Nation.
“I will continue to contribute to the growth and unity of our community, and I hope my efforts inspire others to join in building a brighter future for us all,” he added.
Highlights of the event include the commissioning of projects initiated by the awardee, conferment of chieftaincy title and presentation of certificates, fundraising for community projects, as well as cultural displays.
