Twenty-five Journalists in Cross River State State have been trained on cybersecurity by the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter.
The training held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center, Calabar aims to equip media practitioners with essential skills to protect themselves and their sources from cyber threats.
The keynote speaker, Paul Ingiona in an interactive session on ‘Online Safety, Encryption, Latest Threats,Vulnerability, and Best Practices in Cyber Security,’ posited that Cyber security is a continuous shared responsibility.
He tasks journalists to stay informed and practice good cyber hygiene and advocate for digital safety.
The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity training for journalists.
According to her: “This training is in fulfillment of our promise to constantly train and retrain members and today we are partnering with the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter to expose participants to enhancing Cyber Security.”
She said the training is “because we do a lot of work on the internet, hence, there is a need to protect our work as well as protect ourselves.”
Participants praised the training, describing it as insightful and practical. They are expected to apply the knowledge acquired into their day-to-day work.
