The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan-Enoh, has joined the nation in the mourning of late Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja was a Nigerian Army Lieutenant General who served as the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria from June 2023 to November 2024. He was appointed on 19 June 2023 by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
Sen. Owan-Enoh, who was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Investment took to his official Facebook handle to pen down his tribute.
According to the Minister “I join the nation in mourning the passing of the revered Army Chief, Taoreed Lagbaja, a devoted patriot and outstanding military strategist whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our nation.
“The late Army Chief’s illustrious career was characterized by unwavering commitment, distinction, and an unrelenting pursuit of national security.
“His enduring legacy will continue to inspire future generations, reflecting his visionary leadership and tireless efforts. “Rest in Perfect Peace”, he added.
Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja was said to have passed away on Tuesday night November 5th, 2024, after a protracted illness.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in a statement on Wednesday November 6, 2024 by his office Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, said president Tinubu also mourns Lagbaja’s death.
Akume said, “President Bola Tinubu has expressed regret following the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, after a brief illness at the age of 56.
“The President has directed that national flags be flown at half mast throughout the country for seven days in honor of the departed Army chief.
“He profoundly appreciates the services of the departed to the nation and wishes the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.”
The Army Headquarters, Abuja has also mourned the demise of their former Chief of Staff.
A statement on their official X handle (former Twitter), read this: “Rest in Peace Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Nigeria’s 23rd Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on November 5, 2024.
“You dedicated your life to serving Nigeria, with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. Your immeasurable legacy and contributions will never be forgotten.”
