Police Arrests 2 Suspected Burglars, Recover Firearm In Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two suspects Ita Okon Ekpo-Bassey and Justin Ekpenyong for burglary and illegal possession of firearms in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on April 13, 2025, at about 1:50 PM when one Mr. Isaiah Nseabasi, a resident of Omuma Village in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, returned home to find out that his house in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, had been ransacked.

The suspects had forcefully damaged a door to his sitting room and stole several valuable items.

Two plasma television, one single barrel pump action gun, one gas cylinder, landed property documents, clothing and other personal effects were recovered.

The State Police Command in response to the report, launched into action through the Anti-Kidnapping Squad. The police operations led to the arrest of Mr. Ita Okon Ekpo Bassey, a 28-year-old male living on Wembley Street, Calabar, who was identified as the complainant’s half-brother.

According to the police, further nterrogation and investigation revealed the involvement of a second suspect, Mr. Justin Ekpenyong Eyo, a 35-year-old male, who admitted to have purchased the stolen pump action gun for Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000.00).

In a press release issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo, said both suspects are currently in their custody and will be charged to court once investigations are completed.

SP Irene assured that the Cross River State Police Command remains committed to the safety of all residents and urges the public to continue to support the Force by providing timely and useful information.
