Police Explains Ogoja Motor Accident, Refutes Claims

The Cross River State Police Command has clarified a sad motor accident that occurred on April 24, 2025, along Abakpa/Igoli Road in Ogoja Local Government Area.

The incident involved a BMW vehicle with registration number AKD 900 GD, driven by one Bassey Precious in the company of one Caleb Fidelis Okem.

According to the Cross River State Police Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred following an attempt to resist arrest by some armed men suspected to be operatives of a yet-to-be identified armed men, who were in a white Toyota Hiace Bus.

The police said a viral video posted on TikTok by 21-year-old Joseph Otonko, who resides at No. 36 Old Court Road, Abakpa in Ogoja LGA, alleged that the police misconduct and involvement in the accident that led to tragic scene.

The Police refuted the claims in a press release signed and made available by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Irene Ugbo, disclosing that after being invited for interrogation, Otonko retracted his claims and released a video exonerating the police and acknowledged his error.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosanyin, has urged citizens to remain law-abiding and responsible in their expressions, warning that spreading falsehoods against security agencies is unlawful and counterproductive to societal peace and progress.
