Following a severe windstorm accompanied by heavy rains especially in Calabar metropolis and other adjoining local government areas of Cross River State, the State government has directed residents to take necessary precautions.
The advise was contained in a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang with reference number CR/MOI/AD/369/VOL.V/287, dated 7th May, 2025.
The government advised residents that the windstorm which destroyed houses, electricity poles, and trees in the city center, should take precautions by trimming falling down and outgrown trees in and around their vicinity while at the same time ensuring that they avoid broken down electricity poles and wires to ward off any impending danger or fatalities.
All relevant government agencies and officials of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company are enjoined to swiftly move into action to rectify all damages caused to electricity facilities in the wake of the rain/windstorm with a view to restoring power supply and clearing the debris in the overall interest of the citizens.
Residents without serious business going out on the streets and roads are prayed to remain indoors until normalcy is restored.
The Government solicits the cooperation and understanding of residents so they do not register any casualty.
