The Cross River State Police Command on Monday arrested three yet to be identified nurses after a relative of a patient who died reported theft of a sim card.
The three nurses, stationed at the Accident and Emergency Department of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital were asked to provide care after a Doctor had treated a stranger who was brought in by a good Samaritan CrossRiverWatch gathered.
“The good Samaritan saw the patient helpless on the street and brought him to the hospital and left him there. Our colleagues provided care, but he passed on unfortunately,” a staff told this reporter.
“Later, his relative came to claim his things and said the sim card in his phone was missing. However, the nurses told them that what the good Samaritan brought is what they are giving to him,” the staff added.
This infuriated the relative who then reported to the Police who arrived and arrested the trio on duty, depleting the available manpower available.
The nurses are still detained, nearly 24 hours after.
The Police has been reached for comments.
