Communal Clash: Cross River And Benue Communities Allegedly Engage In Gun Duel

Abonkip Community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State and Tiv Community in Benue State, have reportedly engaged each other in gun battle over suspected land dispute.

A reliable source confirmed the incident to CrossRiverWatch, stating that the incident started on 28 June, 2025, through bushes.

The source said: “Abonkib and Tiv village exchanging a few gunshots in the bush.”

Another source confirmed, saying: “it’s true, but I’m still finding out if there were casualties but there were gun shots.”

Though the cause of the renewed clash is not ascertained as of time of this report but there are speculations it is in connection with the age-long communal conflict.
