The Cross River State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. JW Tobby has warned personnel of the Corps that none of them will escape punishment if they violate extant rules of the service.

Mr. Tobby made this remark following public outcry over a recent case of extortion of a motorist to the tune of one hundred thousand Naira by a team of the Corps personnel in Calabar.

As at press time, Mr Tobby confirmed to CrossRiverWatch that the team members have been taken into custody and their statements have been taken, while one Zeal Nkere Richard, whose account number was used to ferry the sum of N100,000 has switched off his phone and was unreachable.

“There are extant rules. We do not for any reason tolerate any form of extortion and I have warned all our men and continue to do that on a daily basis and any one of them that fall victim will be dealt with according to the rules.

“The team members have been arrested. Their statements have been taken and we are waiting for the main accused person to show up. His phone has been off. Both the headquarters and the zonal command have already been briefed and all those involved will be tried after proper investigation,” he said.
