Rest In Peace, Lieutenant Haruna Samson BY AGBA JALINGO

The late Lt Haruna Samson and his wife

Since September, when Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a young commissioned officer and medical doctor serving at the Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, was burnt to death by his wife after a heated domestic argument, I have been deliberately checking some timelines to see their reactions, to no avail.

For those of you “genderizing” domestic violence because of percentage of occurrence and expecting the rest of us to swallow your categorization ehn, you need to reevaluate your persuasion and motivation. Are you really fighting against domestic violence and abuse or you are out to paint the male gender in bad light? As simple as that question may seem, the later is the goal of many of the advocates.

There is a growing mountain of demonic Jezebels out there who take delight in humiliating, suffocating, beating, raping and even killing their male spouses without any form of emotions and all the time, what we hear and see from advocates against dometic violence is the lopsided attempt to make it look like it is only the men that are the aggressors.

There are thousands of male survivors of domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse. At least, the latest report from the Lagos State DSVA confirmed that. But anytime a male is sexually harassed, the common response is “the guy enjoyed it na.” Yet, all hell is let loose when the opposite is the case. The fact that society makes it inconvenient for males to openly voice their cases does not obliterate the increasing occurrences and the persistent attempt to lopside the advocacy only creates more resentment.

I know several men who sleep in rooms with locked chains in their matrimonial homes because they fear their wives will kill them or hurt them when they sleep off. They can’t speak out because they will be mocked by society. They endure all kinds of abuses in silence and continue to pretend to be strong because they will be told they are men, and they are expected to be strong. Broken and angry women marauding around looking for who to vent their anger on, are on the prowl seeking revenge on men who did not hurt them.

And now, that young beautiful demon that Lieutenant Samson Haruna thought was in love with, poured petrol on him and burnt him to death. If she is ever freed, she will go around telling the world that she was in a toxic, narcissistic, abusive relationship. All that balderdash that has been invented into our lexicon to hide the inanities that folks perpetuate. You don’t have to agree with what I wrote here, because you are not privy to some things I know. This opinion is strictly mine.

May the soul of the gallant officer find smooth passage to eternity.

Yours sincerely,
