Akpanke Seeks Community Ownership Of Projects, Commissions 3-Classroom Block In Bekwarra

Federal legislator, Honorable Peter Akpanke on Wednesday called on communities to take ownership, maintain, and safeguard projects sited within their domain to ensure they enjoy their essence, and dividends of democracy.

The first term lawmaker, representing the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra federal constituency stated this while commissioning a three-classroom block at the After commissioning of a three classroom block and office at the Community Primary school Olokpa, Beten Ward of Bekwarra Local Government Area.

Akpanke, who noted that infrastructure at schools directly contributes to learning outcomes, sought the continuous support and prayers for public office holders to deliver on their mandate.

Receiving the project, Sylvester Obri, a leader in Olokpa who spoke on behalf of others said the project will improve confidence in the public schools system, attracting teachers who often refuse transfers to institutions with poor infrastructure and will decongest learning spaces.

On his part, the Councillor representing the Ward at the Council’s Legislature, Hon. James Godwin Ugar pointed out that there is need for an upgrade of educational infrastructure across the Local Government Area, a point which was re-echoed by Dr. Ken Aklah, the Special Adviser on Aviation to Governor Bassey Otu who said investing on basic education infrastructure remains a long term investment.

Akpanke and his entourage later made a stop at Abuochiche junction where they purchased and ate moi moi, a protein rich steamed bean pudding, with this made particularly from Bambara nuts which are popularly known as ground beans in Nigeria.

In a Facebook post Mr. Akpanke said the famed ‘Abuochiche moi moi’ did not disappoint.

“After commissioning of a three classroom block and office at Community Primary school Olokpa, Beten Ward of Bekwarra LGA, I made a brief stop at the  famous Abuochiche Junction in Bekwarra LGA to sample the exotic ground beans (bambara nuts) moi moi. As always, the rich and distinctive taste of this famed delicacy did not disappoint,” he wrote.
