Cross River Assembly Confirms Appointment Of New State Auditor General

The Cross River State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of the new Auditor General of the state, Mr. Effiong Asuquo Ita.

The motion for his confirmation was moved by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi Jnr., and seconded by Hon. Bete Obi, following the recommendation of the House Committee on Judiciary, Public Service Matters, Public Petitions, and Conflict Resolution.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, during the confirmation session, commended the former Auditor General of the state, who was present alongside the new appointee, noting that the presence of both men reflected a spirit of continuity and cooperation in strengthening public institutions in the state.

Ayambem urged Mr. Ita to consult with his predecessors to gain valuable insights into the workings of the office and to build on existing institutional knowledge. He advised the new Auditor General to maintain close communication with the office of the Governor whenever complex issues arise, stressing that such collaboration would help promote transparency, accountability, and effective financial management in the state.

The Speaker also emphasized the critical role of the Auditor General in safeguarding public resources, expressing confidence that Mr. Ita would discharge his responsibilities with diligence, professionalism, and integrity.

He noted that the Assembly would continue to support initiatives that strengthen accountability mechanisms and improve governance across the state.
