By Patrick Obia

After hours of interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, embattled lawmaker, Honorable Dickson Ovat Agbor, has been released.

His interrogation was confirmed to CrossRiverWatch by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata. However, the PPRO in a latest update on Monday, March 9, 2026, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the suspended lawmaker’s quizzing was necessitated following an invitation by the Command. “Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor and his wife honoured the invitation and reported to the Police for interrogation and questioning regarding the complaint,” he said.

He said during the engagement, both parties indicated willingness to resolve their differences, following appeals made by the wife.

“The Honourable member has since been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation,” Sunday Eitokpah added.

Honorable Member Dishonors House

Following public uproar from all and sundry on what is seen as domestic and gender-based violence, the Cross River State House of Assembly suspended Hon. Dickson Ovat Agbor, member representing Obubra I State Constituency, indefinitely

The decision was reached during plenary following a motion moved by Rt. Hon. Davies Etta and seconded by Rt. Hon. Francis Bassey Asuquo.

In the motion, the Assembly strongly condemned the alleged violent behaviour involving Hon. Agbor, describing it as conduct unbecoming of a lawmaker and contrary to the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.

After deliberations, the House resolved that Hon. Agbor be placed on indefinite suspension from all legislative activities.

The Assembly also approved the constitution of a committee to investigate the matter and report its findings back to the House for further legislative action.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Elvert Ayambem, Matthew Okache, the suspension followed the resolution. Hon. Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms, in compliance with the directive of the House.
