As part of ways to commit to academic excellence and institutional growth, the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has promoted nine members of its academic staff to higher professorial ranks.

The announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, during an emergency Senate meeting held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the university’s Calabar campus.

The promotions followed a rigorous appraisal process conducted by external assessors.

According to the Vice Chancellor, five lecturers were elevated from the rank of Reader to full Professor. They include Joseph Ukpata and Nkpa Ogarekpe of the Department of Civil Engineering, Adebisi Adesola of the Department of Accounting, Sunday Ebaye of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, and Ferdinand Kamgba of the Department of Physics.

In addition, four academics were promoted from Senior Lecturer to Reader. They are Patrick Ushie (Physics), Ujong Peter Ujong (Medical Biochemistry), Victoria Iyishu (Library and Information Science), and Jerome Egbe (Civil Engineering).

Professor Bassey lauded the newly promoted scholars for their dedication, research output, and contributions to the university community. She noted that their elevation reflects both personal achievement and the institution’s broader mission to strengthen teaching, research, and community engagement.

Members of the university community have also congratulated the honorees, describing the promotions as well-earned and a clear sign of UNICROSS’s steady progress in advancing academic standards.
