Cross River-born journalist, documentary filmmaker and entrepreneur, Obaji Akpet, has emerged as the new Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) Alumni Hub Lead for Lagos after securing the highest number of votes in the 2026 Hub Lead elections.
Akpet, a 2019 TEF Alumni, was formally congratulated by the Foundation’s Alumni Engagement Team, which described his election as a reflection of the confidence fellow alumni have placed in his capacity to represent, connect and support the community.
Speaking after his emergence, Akpet pledged to build his tenure around the Africapitalist ideals championed by TEF Founder, Tony O. Elumelu, with emphasis on entrepreneurship, job creation, wealth generation and social impact.
“Lagos is the epicenter of the TEF Program and our responsibility as its alumni is not simply to celebrate what the Foundation has done for us, but to carry its ideals forward,” Akpet said.
He said his administration would prioritize collaboration, mentorship, business opportunities, knowledge sharing, market access and increased visibility for alumni-owned businesses.
Akpet, who founded Africa Fixers Ltd, a Pan-African production logistics company operating across more than 40 African countries, has also worked as a journalist and documentary filmmaker with international media organizations including the BBC, Reuters, TRT World, Arte and Business Insider.
He called for unity among members following the election, saying the contest should not divide the alumni community.
“There is no victor and no vanquished. This was not a contest between enemies, but between fellow alumni who care deeply about the future of our community. The campaign ends today; the work begins.”
Akpet’s eight-point agenda includes strengthening alumni collaboration, promoting businesses owned by members, creating platforms for knowledge and business growth, and amplifying the achievements of TEF entrepreneurs.
He urged all Lagos-based TEF alumni to join the effort, stressing that the success of the Hub would depend on collective participation.
