Family, friends, associates, and guests defied a heavy downpour on Thursday as Mma Rosaline Kalu, the mother of the Social and Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Charles Kalu began her final journey home at Asaga Ohafia, in Abia State.
Mr. Kalu is CrossRiverWatch’s Editor at Large and serves as General Manager of the privately owned People’s 105.5FM, Abuja.
And, despite the heavy downpour which threatened activities, dozens trooped to the Ndia Kalu residence, venue for the Service of Songs in honor of Mrs. Kalu who was affectionately known as Mma Rosa.
Conducted by the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, the service drew a crowd that defied the inclement weather.
Mrs. Kalu passed away on May 22nd, 2026 at the age of 85.
The officiating minister during the service commended those present for their resilience and charged them to reflect on their lives.
“After your journey, there will be judgment. Where you are going, will it be heaven of hell. No matter your position you have to think about yourself because if you are not born again, you are not born again. God does not accept bribes,” one of the ministers said.
“No matter your position, you have to reflect on your life and ensure that you are washed by the blood of the Lamb. Salvation is very important. Are you saved? Do you have a close relationship with Jesus? Now is the time to make a choice,” the admonition continued.
For Mr. Kalu, the patience of those who traveled down and braved the weather, shows that, “it is a mark of honor, and friendship. Even the elders and ministers.”
Mma Rosa earned admiration and recognition for her outstanding contributions to the Women’s Guild of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, particularly in Ohafia, where she received several awards for her devotion and commitment to Christian service.
Beyond her church activities, she was celebrated as a prominent women’s leader who mentored younger generations and touched countless lives through her kindness, compassion and selfless sacrifices.
Her passing has drawn tributes from family members and community leaders who remember her as a symbol of resilience, perseverance and unconditional love.
Survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday by the PCN in Asaga Ohafia before she is committed to mother Earth.
