On Friday, April 17, 2026, 15 persons were reportedly kidnapped from a boat traveling to Oron, Akwa Ibom from Calabar, Cross River State where majority of the victims were the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) candidates.
This is coming two day after 8 JAMB candidates were kidnapped on Wednesday 16, April 2026 in Benue State by unknown gunmen.
Speaking on efforts to rescue the 15 victims, the Cross River State Command Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the Command is collaborating with the Akwa Ibom State counterpart, the Nigerian Navy and other sister agencies to secure their safe release.
“Command is working in close synergy with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Nigerian Navy. Coordinated search-and-rescue and tactical operations are currently ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and the swift apprehension of the perpetrators,” he said.
