The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), introducing a new scheme that aims at facilitating major changes that will help to modernize and improving the experience of corps members nationwide.
As part of the reform, the FG led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi alongside the Minister of Youth, Ayodele Olawande, requesting the amendment of NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect all the approved reform measures, enabling an immediate implementation of the new framework.
Some of the landmark reforms are: a technology-driven call-up process, Risk-sensitive deployment to better protect Corps members, redesign a six-week orientation program with a stronger focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills, and specialized career streams, skills based primary assignments aligned with academic background and career pathways.
Others include Modern governance with civilian operational leadership while the Military continues to provide security support, Improved camp standards through a National grading and certification system and a new graduation ceremony to replace the Passing Out Parade (POP), and a redesigned NYSC uniform that reflects professionalism and national pride.
