The Cross River State Government has terminated the contract awarded to Sydney Construction Company for the construction of the Obanliku–Obudu–Abucheche–Mfom–Okpoma Road, citing poor performance and failure to meet contractual obligations.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Edet, announced the decision following an inspection of the project by a team of engineers from the ministry.
According to the Commissioner, the assessment revealed that the contractor failed to achieve satisfactory progress and did not execute the project in line with the approved specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
Hon. Edet said the termination reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability in project execution, protecting public funds, and delivering quality infrastructure to the people of Cross River State.
He disclosed that the affected road project will be reassessed, while the state government takes steps to engage a competent contractor capable of completing the work to the required standard.
The government reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that all infrastructure projects across the state are executed efficiently and in the best interest of residents.
