The Cross River State Police Command has appealed to the public to assist in identifying the family or relatives of an 18-year-old woman, Justina Okon, who was found wandering around the Tinapa Junction area of Calabar.
According to a press release issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the teenager was discovered at about 10:35AM on Sunday, July 20, by a good samaritan, Mr. Bassey Okon, who promptly alerted the police.
The Command said the young woman, who speaks English, Pidgin English and Anang, was unable to provide a coherent account of herself or give enough information to help officers trace her family or guardian.
The police said despite efforts to identify and locate her relatives, the search has so far been unsuccessful. The release added that she is currently under the protective custody of the Ikpai Omin Police Division in Calabar, where she is receiving care pending her identification and reunification with her family.
The Command called on anyone who recognizes Justina Okon or has useful information about her parents, relatives or guardian to report immediately to the Officer-in-Charge of the Ikpai Omin Police Division or the nearest police station, reiterating its commitment to protecting lives, providing humanitarian assistance, and working with the public to ensure the young woman is safely reunited with her family.
