Cross River-born Major General Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah has handed over command as the GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander JTF (South-South) Operation Delta Safe.
The ceremony held on Friday 24, 2026, as he handed over to his successor, Major General EI Okoro.
Major General Emmanuel who hails from Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River, said it has been a great privilege to serve for the past 18 months, an assignment that started from 24 January 2025 to 24 July 2026.
He expressed gratitude to Almighty God for His grace and protection during the course of the assignment.
The Major lauded the Chief of Defence Staff for the appointment, and the Chief of Army Staff for the trust and support to complete his tour.
General Emmanuel extended appreciation to officers, soldiers, and staff of 6 Division for their loyalty, dedication, and teamwork.
He noted that their corporation helped to achieve an increase in crude oil production from 1.5 mbpd to over 1.8mbpd – the highest in 6 years.
The outgoing Commander said his reign witnessed zero pipeline vandalism through stakeholder engagement and joint operations, and massive infrastructural development across the Division.
Other achievements include skill acquisition training for spouses and children of troops, as well as a successful hosting of NADCEL 2026, which gathered over 15 African Chiefs of Army Staff in attendance.
He wished his successor, Major General EI Okoro God’s guidance as he takes over the baton.
“To our stakeholders and the good people of the South-South, thank you for your cooperation. 6 Division – ‘The Home of the Pythons’. God bless the Nigerian Army. God bless Nigeria,” he praised.
The successful and intelligent Major General Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah, had led the planning for the Nigerian Army Day Celebration which saw the introduction of new twists to the fly pass including the rough landing by the Army Helicopter unit which led to conversations online about the airworthiness of the Huey frames due to the seeming rough landing.
He joined the Armed Forces in 1995 as a member of the 42nd regular course.
He served as Commander of 17 Brigade in Katsina and the 707 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Benue State and as Deputy Chief of Operations (Army) at Army Headquarters Abuja before he was appointed as GOC, 6 division.
He assumed office in Port Harcourt, as GOC 6 division on January 24, 2025.
He holds the achievement as the first person from Bekwarra to attain such a rank.
