The Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has directed 214 students in the Faculty of Law to return to their original departments after discovering that they were not officially admitted into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program.
The decision followed an internal review of the admission status of students in LL.B II, which revealed that only 221 of the 435 students were duly admitted into the Faculty of Law. The remaining 214 students reportedly gained entry into the program through departmental transfers, a process the university said does not qualify them for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
According to the university, the affected students’ portals have been temporarily locked to facilitate their transition back to their respective departments.
To cushion the impact of the decision, the institution announced that the affected students would either receive a full refund of their 2025/2026 tuition fees or be granted free tuition in the 2026/2027 academic session in their original departments.
