The Cross River State House of Assembly has proceeded on a working recess, allowing lawmakers to take their legislative activities beyond the chambers and deepen engagement with their constituents.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Matthew Okache, said, the recess provides members of the 10th Assembly an opportunity to return to their respective constituencies, consult with their constituents, monitor developments in their areas and attend to other official engagements, while continuing to discharge their responsibilities as elected representatives.
Under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, the Assembly is believed to sustain a robust legislative agenda, with lawmakers considering bills, motions and other matters of public importance, alongside their oversight responsibilities.
According to the statement, the working recess is therefore not a suspension of legislative duties, but an opportunity for members to engage more directly with the people they represent and gather useful feedback that can inform subsequent legislative interventions.
During the recess, lawmakers are expected to remain accessible to their constituents and continue their various official engagements across the state.
The Assembly will reconvene for plenary on September 29, 2026, when legislative activities will resume.
In a remark, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, described the recess as a working period, urging members to remain engaged with their constituents, attend to official responsibilities and return with renewed commitment to legislative duties.
