Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has directed the resumption of the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA) on the roads while restricting the operations of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) to its official offices.

The directive follows complaints from commercial drivers and tricycle operators concerning high transport ticket charges, excessive fines and alleged harassment by traffic enforcement officers.

The governor’s intervention is believed to address these concerns, reducing the financial burden on transport operators and improving traffic management across the state.

Under the directive, TRAMRA is expected to focus on its primary responsibilities, including traffic control, road safety and the smooth movement of vehicles. Meanwhile, VIO officers are to carry out their duties within their official offices rather than conducting roadside operations.

The directive also introduced reductions in transport ticket charges and penalties to ease the burden on commercial drivers and tricycle operators.

Enforcement officers are equally expected to wear proper uniforms, carry valid identification and ensure transparency in the collection of government fees.

The directive contained in a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bassey Otu, Mr. Linus Obogo, is expected to promote accountability, reduce conflicts between transport operators and enforcement officers, and improve the efficiency of traffic management in Cross River State.

The release urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators and other road users to comply with the new directives and cooperate with the relevant agencies to ensure safety and order on the roads.
