Governor Otu Orders Temporary Relocation Of NYSC Orientation Camp To Akamkpa

By Blessing George

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu has ordered the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp from Obubra to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa.

The order was contained in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

According to the government, the relocation is intended to create room for the comprehensive renovation, remodelling and upgrading of the existing NYSC orientation camp facilities in Obubra.

The release noted that the Obubra camp, which has served the NYSC scheme for several years, had become overstretched and required urgent intervention to bring it up to modern standards.

It said the renovation was also aimed at providing corps members with a more conducive, safe and befitting environment during their orientation exercises.

The government stressed that the relocation was strictly temporary, adding that the NYSC camp would return to Obubra after the completion of the renovation works.

Meanwhile, the University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa has been assessed and approved as an alternative venue for the orientation exercise.

The government said the institution has adequate facilities, including hostels, water supply, electricity, a parade ground and security architecture, to accommodate corps members and facilitate a hitch-free orientation exercise.
