First Term Was Clearing, 2nd Term Is Building – Otu Inaugurates Campaign Council, Task Them As ‘Apostles And Disciples Of Conviction’

By Patrick Obia

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu has inaugurated the All Progressive Congress (APC) State Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.

Governor Otu Inaugurating the council led by the Commissioner of Education, Professor Stephen Odey as Director General, charged them to be “apostles of continuity and disciples of conviction” as they go into the 18 local government areas and the wards.

The exercise held at the APC state secretariat, Calabar, he implored the team to campaign with respect, but speak with facts, decorum and conviction.

“Point them to the fresh yields from upgraded systems. Show them pictures of Tinapa, the library, the governor’s office, the ranch, the airplane. Let them know they are co-owners of all these duties.

“Let them know the debts have been paid and their future is clear. Assure them that their oil wells are coming back and the deep sea port will employ them in thousands. Unemployment shall be a thing of the past and a bright new day of wealth.

“Proclaim to every conservative, we have moved the state out of the doldrums. Let them know we have not finished the work, but we are proven we can do the work. Let our results in restoration convince them of our capacity for progression,” he said.

He averred that his first term and that of President Tinubu was foundation laying while his second term will be building and delivering on campaign promises.

“No, we have finished recovery. The phase two we are entering is why a second term is a match to wealth creation and prosperity. The first term was about clearing the bush and laying the foundation.

“The second term will be about building the house and filling it with prosperity. The bridges have been built. The journey from gloom to boom is assured.

“The shift from decadence to flourishing is guaranteed. With hunger and sweat, the energy for this nation is available. And this is why Cross Riverians should and will vote for us again because you can not change a farmer who has cleared the farm from when it is time to plant.

“You do not abandon a builder who has laid the foundation when it is time to raise the roof. You do not change the first eleven pushing to score the goals. The sail that is halfway must break and the flight cannot return mid-air.

“Our second term agenda is clear and will align fully with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed home agenda, which holds so many great prospects for us,” he stated.

Earlier, the State Chairman of APC in Cross River State, Mr. Christopher Ettah, while positing that APC has no opposition in the state, cautioned against giving any chance for the opposition.

He said it is going to be a contest of ideas, policies, governance architecture, and programs.

“We are going into different battles. We need to do our homework, acquaint ourselves with what our government has done,” warned.

He echoed the governor’s sentiment: “I want to appeal to you, to confront people with facts and with what the party and government have done. We need weapons to arm ourselves with – programs, projects. You are now the apostles of APC, to preach Governor Bassey Otu, President Tinubu and other APC candidates.”

He also warned against internal divisions and betrayals. “We need to fight together because we are fighting with the heart and might of Nigerians.”

Similarly, the Director General of the Campaign Council, Professor Stephen Odey, thanked the governor for counting him worthy to be his campaign DG.

“As the DG, I will show the opposition pepper and smoke them out,” Odey said, adding that the team will embark on a rigorous campaign leaving no stone left unturned from the creeks of Bakassi to the hill of Obanliku.

He assured that with the confidence reposed in him, victory is delivered for the APC.
