Another victim from the empowerment stampede organized by the governor’s wife of Cross River State, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has reportedly died.
The victim identified as Rose passed on at the General Hospital Ogoja on Wednesday, October, 28, 2026, evening hours after her health got worse due to the stampede and police teargas, family source said.
A netizen and the victim’s family member, Mark Ochonu, disclosed this on his official Facebook account.
Mark, expressing grief over Rose passing on, said: “My cousin sister is gone, and my family is in pain.”
He accused Governor Bassey Otu’s wife and the APC of causing pain for the bereaved families in disguise of empowerment.
“People came out in numbers towards your empowerment hoping to receive assistance, but now their families are left grieving. God… This pain is too much.”
He confirmed: “She was among the victims of the 5kg rice empowerment exercise in Ogoja, an incident that has raised serious concerns about the safety and welfare of those who attended the program,” Mark disclosed.
