NGO Holds Training On Witchcraft And Child Abuse In Cross River

A one day training on witchcraft beliefs and accusations organized by a non-governmental organization, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI) in partnership with Prevent Abuse of Children Today (PACT) and sponsored by Stepping Stones Nigeria held in Odukpani LGA in Cross River State today.

The event started with an advocacy visit to Mrs. Ekeng J. Ebri, Head of Administration for Odukpani LGA.

Thereafter, activities proceeded to the Village Meeting Hall where event participants were already waiting.

The training, which was highly interactive, was designed to raise awareness and challenge witchcraft narratives that are used to justify these accusations as well as the resultant physical and emotional abuse of children.

According to organizers, the specific objectives of the program target increased awareness of child abuse specifically witchcraft accusation and sexual abuse. Understanding the prevailing attitudes towards children and increased ability to identify the signs and indicators of child abuse as well as knowing the relevant agencies where to report cases of child abuse.
