Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, representing the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, has said that he stands tall to be judged by his records since he arrived the Red Chambers to represent his people.
Senator Egba spoke after picking his intent form at the PDP party secretariat in Calabar last week. While addressing the party leaders and faithfuls, he argued that he should be judged by his records after 12 years of representation and not by other pecuniary standards to give him a fourth term.
His words, “I Victor Ndoma Egba will like to be judged by my records, as a legislator your primary assignment is to make laws, as at today I have 39 bills to my credits, the famous freedom of information act which is a law today was introduced by your son standing here.”
Reacting to the question of why he is seeking a fourth term which will make it 16 years in the Senate, the Senate Leader said: “People have been asking me why I want to run again, if you recall the history of the Nigerian National Assembly from 1999 – 2007 the National Assembly was characterized by instability, from 2007 when Senator David Mark became Senate President, we had seen stability in the Senate, once we have seen the Senate re-elect the Senate President, the same Deputy Senate President as Deputy, a Deputy Leader been moved to the position of Leader, that is stability and I have been part of the stability in the National Assembly. If you must keep stability then you must return the team that has provided stability”.
According to him, in politics truth is a weapon, half truth, propaganda is a weapon, intimidation, and blackmail are all weapons expected to be seen and used in politics, but the only thing is that these weapons cannot be used to fight Boko Haram”, he said.
Addressing his opposing camp, Senator Egba held that “If anybody is coming to take my seat and the person is from the Central Senatorial district, he must put on the table the number of Bills he has passed”.
Ndoma-Egba congratulated his predecessor for supporting his going back for the 4th term by saying, “It is very unusual in our own politics here to see the person you took over from supporting you; I must commend Senator Matthew Mbu for supporting me even though I took over from him”.
He affirmed that “I will be running for my seat, I am not running for any body’s seat, I am running for my seat. Na person wey dey run for another person seat na him dey fall”.
He revealed that “I have informed the state leader of our party, the state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke and I have observed all protocols in this process, I started by informing the leader of our great party now I am here to inform the party”.
Furthermore, he disclosed that “My projects I inspected few months ago are just 41 out of 76, I stopped at 41 because I want others to show us what they’ve done before I continue, I have waited till today but none have shown us their projects in the central but they are good in propaganda.
“As at today I have over 600 students from central senatorial district as beneficiaries of my scholarship scheme, I have a magazine I publish where all my projects and beneficiaries are listed including the scholarship beneficiaries”.
He ended by asking: “If you have a turkey and a weaver bird which will you choose?
