Cross River State ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chapter chairman, Ntufam John Okon, has enjoined a State House of Assembly aspirant for Ikom Urban ward 1, Mrs. Theresa Agbor to work hard and ensure she gets the favor of delegates who will vote in the party primaries.

The advice was given when the party chairman received the aspirant in his Calabar office after she submitted her nomination form as she was presented to him by women groups, including Ikom Strength Women, Virtues Women, Mothers Voice Initiative, and Royal Friends.

Addressing the aspirant and her team of women, the party chairman maintained that “Election can only be won in the field, go and work hard to ensure that you win substantial delegates to your side and even you can be a delegate that is if you win in the delegates election”.

He reiterated that he is happy with the level of interest women are now showing in the state politics especially in supporting their own maintaining that they should keep up the spirit.

Ntufam John beckoned on them to use peaceful approach as they have been doing in soliciting for support for their candidate.

On her part, the aspirant, Mrs. Theresa Agbor commended the state PDP chairman for his fatherly advice promising that she will allow no negative element interfere with her success in the forth coming election.

Speaking to CrossRiverWatch she urged all her opposition to step down for her or have it hot in the field. Her words: “I am urging my oppositions to step down for me and they won’t regret it”.

Mrs. Theresa affirmed that “My chances are high because my people and women in particular are solidly behind me; I am running because my people consensually asked me to go there and represent their interest having served them well in the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB”.

She solicited that “I am soliciting to my dear people not to be intimidated by anyone for any choice you make and I want to let you know that I will never make you say had I known, I wouldn’t have chosen her, I will create a change as compared to others who have been there”.

Earlier, while presenting Mrs. Agbor to the state PDP chairman, Mrs. Stella Ogar, speaking on behalf of the groups, described the ward as “The host of the erstwhile wider old Ikom that constitute Boki, Etung and Ikom. We house other Nigerian tribes (Hausa, Yoruba and Ibo) by giving them quarters”.

According to her, “The political history of Ikom shows that other wards over the years have had several positions without the urban ward one, we solicit that for equity and fairness, Ikom urban ward 1 should get the House of Assembly for the first time.”
