A lecturer with the Department of Theatre and Media Studies, Dr. Columba Apeh has stressed the need for the institutionalization of a process that will transparently allow the people to genuinely choose who to lead them.
The University Don who made his feelings known while speaking to newsmen in Calabar in preparation to the public presentation of his book, “Insight on Theatre Research: Thesis and Dissertation Writing in Theatre and Media Studies”, reasoned that it is wrong for any person or group of persons to entertain the notion of selecting leaders for the people, meaning that the people lack the capacity to know what is good for them or that they have no right to choose what they want.
Dr. Apeh said that the politics of imposition of leaders on the people was retrogressive for the country and Cross River State, maintaining that all aspirants for the gubernatorial race from the north should be given equal level playing ground, and that what is of interest to him as a person is that the man or woman who will emerged should be somebody with great ideas, young, energetic and with the necessary international and national connections.
Dr. Apeh who is one of the only two theatre and media studies sound specialists in Nigeria said that there were many issues confronting Nigeria as a nation and Cross River State as a state in Nigeria, there is the need for us to sit as a people to tell ourselves the hard truth as Americans did after the 9/11 incident.
