The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Barrister Efiok Cobham, has said that journalists in Nigeria do not have what it takes to earn public trust and sympathy.
Cobham who made his position known during the Endowment Fund Launch of the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held at the UNICAL Hotel, Calabar, Thursday maintained that members of the fourth estate of the realm do not deserve public sympathy because they now write for the highest bidder.
The Deputy Governor who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Effiong Okon, who is a journalist himself, said that journalists have bastardized the pen profession.
He said that members of the public have lost confidence on journalists because they now write and report for those who possess the financial muscles and not the truth, hence the public no longer have any sympathy for them.
