As the 7th Assembly winds up, an enigma wraps up an endearing three-term sojourn in the Senate of the National Assembly. This, indeed, is a time of reckoning and stock taking. For me, my Senator with whom l share the Nkpanjen and Ekpache ancestry as well as a common profession, did well in the 12 years he spent in the NASS.

Ndoma-Egba’s face was very visible and his voice very audible in the 5th,6th and 7th Senates. He made the Ikom man proud; he represented Cross River State well and he proved that a Lawyer is truly society’s mouthpiece.

Agba Jalingo refers to him as ‘the most eloquent Senate Leader’ while Missang Oyama opines that ‘he is a portrait of legislative excellence’. Ernest Irek says ‘Ndoma-Egba is the conscience of Cross River State’ and Princewill Odidi sees his great Ikom brother as ‘a legislator par excellence’.

From whatever angle you view him, Victor is a star. A scion of the pioner Ikom High Court Judge; pioneer Cross River Justice of the Court of Appeal(Hon. Justice Emmanuel Takon Ndoma-Egba, JCA) who, himself, emerged as the pioneer Senior Advocate of Ikom origin and second Senior Advocate of Cross River Central Senatorial District (after Okoi Arikpo, SAN).

Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN has contributed immensely to societal development through his executive and legislative roles. As Works Commissioner, he gave us the Ikom-Etomi-Agbokim Waterfalls road and the Ikom-Adijinkpor-Akparabong road. As a Senator, he sponsored several bills including the FOI bill; he spoke powerfully and passionately against pension funds theft.

The Victor of the 7th Senate may not have satisfied all of us on individual basis, but he applied his legislative advocacy skills well to the advantage of his constituents. The Specialist Hospital in Ikom is a testimony just like the Open University Centre, the Ajassor road, the rehabilitated Akparabong road etc.

Minen Victor Ndoma-Egba bows out as the Leader of the Senate on June 9, but he remains my Leader and unarguably, the Ikom Leader; being the highest political office holder, thus far, from Ikom.

Minen Nchor, egafra wa erom yi omaro lem!

Wor Achi Nentui, asi sama.
