Senators representing Cross River State at the National Assembly, Senators John Owan Enoh and Gershom Bassey, as well as a member of the House of Representatives, Honorable Bassey Ewa, have commended Governor Ben Ayade for the establishment of the Cross River Garment Factory, which they said will have multiplier effects and impact tremendously on the state and citizenry.

In separate chats shortly after being conducted round the factory complex, by Governor Ayade, Owan-Enoh and Bassey representing Cross River Central and South respectively, said the project will reposition the state economically.

According to Owan- Enoh, “That the dream of the Cross River Garment Factory is happening right before our eyes, I am happy and marvelled by it.”

The senator who likened the huge factory to Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri said: “From outside, you cannot appreciate how huge this place is until you come in, so coming inside the garment factory, I can actually appreciate how little I am compared to the gigantic project I find here.”

He reasoned that when commissioned, it will not only generate 3000 employment opportunities but will also boost the economy of others who will take up catering jobs, among others.

Lauding Governor Ayade for the initiative, Owan- Enoh said, “I am overwhelmed that it is happening before our eyes, it was bound to happen and it has to happen now.”

Senator Gershom, on his part maintained that the factory, which he described as a monument in size, has tremendous multiplier effects on the entire state.

Gershom said the factory would boost direct and indirect employment opportunities.

His words: “I think this is the kind of model that we need to replicate in other parts of Nigeria. We talk of diversifying our economy and so on, I think this is the kind of project we need.”

He further added: “Agriculture is good, solid minerals is good, but this is something that before the end of this year, it will train the middle class.”

For Bassey Ewa, “It is a dream come true. We have been looking for this kind of project to attract employment, it will also provide accommodation for those that will be employed. In fact, government for the people is what is demonstrated here.”

Ewa, while further commending the governor on the initiative, averred: “It is thoughtful of him to think of the unemployed, especially the widows who will be engaged here, this is what we have been looking for and the opportunity is here before us.”
