Three officials of the Cross River state government revenue service have been arrested by the police in Calabar over allegations that an undisclosed amount of money is missing and may have been diverted by the officials.

The allegations were contained in a report of investigation of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs by the State House of Assembly.

The three officials whose identities were not immediately available, were said to have been unable to defend some of the expenditure they presented during the House of Assembly investigation while some were also said to have allegedly diverted some of the funds to companies connected to them.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly confirmed to CrossRiverWatch that a report of an investigation by the House indicted some people in the Executive arm of government who have been arrested but did not reveal the identities of those involved.

“The House of Assembly did an investigation of the various MDAs with a view to seeing how we can block the loopholes and improve government revenue to cope with the present financial drought but in the course of our investigation we discovered that some monies could not be accounted for and we recommended the arrest and prosecution of those involved to the Governor and their arrest has been effected.” The Speaker said.

The State Police Spokesperson, Irene Itohan said she was not aware of the development but will make findings and asked our reporter to call back tomorrow.

“I am not aware of that information yet but I will find out and ask the right persons here questions and confirm if that is correct. You may call back tomorrow.” She said.
