A Dangote truck conveying cement today at about 3 pm today, 13th July 2016, ran into a tanker carrying kerosene along Ediba road, in Ugep Yakurr LGA causing serious leakage of the flammable liquid on the road.
In the ensuing milieu, the tanker driver hopped down and stopped the truck driver to complain of the damage the truck has caused the tanker, but the conductor of the truck got into a scuffle with the tanker driver and pushed him unto the path of the truck which was still moving.
Our reporter says the truck crushed the tanker driver’s two legs leaving him to scream loudly for help. He was later rushed to one of the hospitals in Ugep where he finally died.
The truck driver who attempted to escape with his truck was later caught in Abomeghe, Ebonyi state.
The incident also witnessed a multitude of youths, men, women and even children who scrambled to scoop the kerosene in the tanker which was left behind while some where seen climbing the tanker to open it so that they can drain kerosene into their gallons and household basins.
One of the youths who spoke with CrossRiverWatch said, “This is an opportunity oh! Kerosene is now N250 a litre in black market price. So God has blessed us with kerosene.”
Some youths were also seen selling the scooped kerosene for N100, N150 a litre.
