The management of the Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH) has extended the Easter break for students to May 12, 2017 to enable them pay outstanding fees owed the Varsity.
This comes barely 24 hours after the institution made good its promise of publishing the list of students indebtedness to the institution on the state owned Nigerian Chronicle and the institutions’ website.
A total of 11,119 students are owing the Varsity between a semester fee to almost 3 sessions with some owing as high as NGN378,050
The total sum owed is One billion, two hundred and ninety one million, eight hundred and twenty six thousand, one hundred and forty Naira (NGN1,291,826,140.00) which is equivalent to almost 7 months of subventions at NGN200 million a month as proposed by Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade when he visited the institution, or almost 8 months at NGN169 million a month.
But, the information is yet to be published on the institution’s website as earlier promised.
The Senate of the institution arising from its meeting on Wednesday resolved that students should be given 3 weeks to clear outstanding debts before examinations begin.
The students are to proceed on vacation and resume on May 12, 2017 with those resident in the hostels given till Monday, April 24, 2017 to vacate the premises.
CrossRiverWatch had earlier reported that the institution had suspended those owing a session school fees and above with only those owing only one semester eligible to write examinations.
