Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has directed the immediate deployment of troops from the Brigadier Godwin Ally cantonment in Ogoja to quell the renewed communal clash between the Abonkib community in Obudu local government area and the Mgbazerem community of Vandeikya local government area of Benue state.

CrossRiverWatch had earlier reported that at least one has been hospitalized in the renewed crisis.

And, a statement quoting the State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji says trucks of armed soldiers have arrived the war zone.

Meanwhile, Cross Riverians traveling from the northern parts of the country to the state through Vandeikya have been advised to “take caution or suspend their journey until there is calm so as not to fall victims of the crisis,” the state said.

Also, the state said it is “on top of the situation” and, “would do its utmost best to protect the citizens of state while appealing to the Benue state government to put counter measures that will return immediate peace to the Boundary area.”

The crisis is centered on claims to land between both communities and has blown into full crisis at least two times in the past three years CrossRiverWatch gathered.
