Ahead of the mid September resumption dates of several schools across Cross River, the management of CrossRiverWatch has announced its plan to support pupils and students with several items including bags, sandals and uniforms.
“This is in the spirit of our 6th anniversary celebration,” the managing editor, Mr. Jeremiah Archibong said in an interview on Tuesday in Calabar.
He explained that: “As the new school session commences this September, we identified some of the challenges faced by the new and returning students in the season.”
This is in line with the Newspaper’s goal of “promoting education especially for the poor and under privileged in rural communities who will be the beneficiaries of the project,” Mr. Archibong said.
He further explained that the project which has both a social and eco friendly outlook as team of young Cross Riverians will be engaged to produce school bags from recyclable items.
“We will partner with a team of young Cross Riverian with a social enterprises and innovative project that produces school bags school student for poor communities and households.
“The team is made up of teenagers who collect used tarpaulin printed banners and make durable school bags. These products have social and environmental advantages as well as creating jobs for unemployed young people,” He said.
Furthermore, he solicited the support of, “all public spirited individuals as well as organizations to partner with it to provide these items to at least one thousand pupils across the state.”
CrossRiverWatch was launched on August 27, 2012 and has gone on to be a leading source of news for many across the globe and felicitations as well a criticisms have been pouring in since Sunday.
