The Cross River State Government has spent 500 million Naira to acquire and renovate the DESAM House in Calabar in readiness for the commissioning of the Central Bank of Nigeria Entrepreneurship Development center for the South South zone located in the city.

Speaking in an interview with CrossRiverWatch in Calabar today, Mr. Gerald Adah, the Special Adviser to Senator Liyel Imoke on Trade and Investment Promotion said the acquisition of the massive edifice which hitherto housed the defunct Savannah Bank of Nigeria and several other corporate entities is in pursuit of the state’s determination to expand the frontiers of job creation in the South South.

According to Mr. Adah, the center will train both up-coming and existing entrepreneurs for the next five years during which period graduates are expected to acquire basic skills of becoming successful entrepreneurs, job creators and employers of labor.

The Special Adviser said that the take-off of the center in Calabar will, “further enhance the resolve, commitment and tenacity of purpose by the BRACED state governors to promote regional economic cooperation”.

He advised upcoming and existing entrepreneurs in the South South zone to take advantage of the programs of the center which are designed by renowned consultants, SHIELD Academy based on world class curriculum.

The Calabar centre is to be jointly commissioned on Monday, 2nd September 2013 by the six BRACED State governors including Henry Sariake Dickson of Bayelsa, Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Senator Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Adams Oshiomole of Edo and Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta.

Other centers where the CBN Entrepreneurial Development facility are located are in the country include Lagos, for the South West states, Maiduguri for the North East, Onitsha for the South East and Benue is hosting for the North Central States.
