The University of Cross River State last week unveiled it’s new logo, vision and mission statements months after Cross River Governor, Benedict Ayade assented to the bill seeking for its name change on February 15, 2021.
Sponsored by the leader of the ninth Assembly, Peter Odey (APC, Ogoja) the bill sought to make the then Cross River University of Technology, a conventional university to expand the number of programs offered.
But, the unveiling of a new logo delayed as the regulations of the Nigerian University Commission stipulates that a name change of such, meant registration as a new Varsity with a fee of NGN150 million to be paid.
The approval for the release of the sum is what delayed until weeks ago.
And, following NUC’s accreditation, the new logo, vision and mission statements were then forwarded to the Varsity’s senate for approval last week which received no rejection when put to vote, sources say.
The new logo is basically same and sees “UNICROSS” replace the word, “CRUTECH.”
Also, some of the blue and white blocks have been shaded to include the image of an illuminated bulb above a book and what seems a river.
The motto remains, “Knowledge For Human Advancement,” while “University Of Cross River State,” is written below.
The vision statement reads; “Be a center of excellence in education with highly qualified and motivated staff, and excellent teaching and research facilities for the production of graduates that can compete with their peers globally.”
Also, the mission statement reads; “To produce well- trained graduates and researchers equipped for active participation in socio-economic development.”
