The Cross River State government has been advised to establish a commercial farm for the widows and dependants of the fallen heroes to enable them cater for themselves and their dependants.
Chief Imam of the 13 brigade of Nigeria Army, Calabar, Major Ibrahim Shofolahan gave the advise during the special Jummat Service organised in honor of the fallen heroes as part of the 2014 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Imam said Armed forces remembrance day as an annual event to honor the fallen heroes will go along way if support for their widows and dependants is given due consideration.
Major Sofolahan maintained that such venture will enable their widows to be financially dependent and provide for their basic needs.
The Islamic cleric frowned at the annual donation of cash saying that may not get to the real beneficiaries as given, but according to him, providing them a mechanized farm will cater for their feeding and put more money in their pockets.
The chairman of the Cross River State chapter of the Nigeria Legion, Retired Lt Col Timothy Oshie agreed to the suggestion in an interview and promised to table the matter before government as a positive way forward to reduce the suffering of the dependants of the fallen heroes who died for their country.
