A non-government organization (NGO), Connected Development (CODE), has written the management of University of Calabar (UNICAL), demanding for the institution’s audited financial statements under the Freedom of Information Act.
CODE, in it’s FOI request signed by the Cross River Lead, Follow The Money Movement, Efanga Etim asked the Varsity to publish the varsity’s audited financial statement on its website and other social media platform for accountability and transparency sake within seven days of inquiry as stipulated in the FOI act.
According to the NGO, the request was pertinent, as it is also pursuant to Nigeria’s signing of the Open Government Partnership centered on the principles of public responsiveness, accountability, and transparency.
Furthermore, CODE asked the institution to comply timely, for the improvement of the Varsity’s position at the annual Freedom Of Information Compliance and Transparency rankings.
