A daredevil criminal, Godswill Emmanuel aka Emperor has reached the end of the road. He alongside two of his members was arrested by the Police on Monday after being wanted since 2019.
Emperor and his gang were declared wanted after they failed in an attempt to kidnap Chief Ani Esin who at the time was the State Security Adviser, Southern Senatorial District to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State.
Chief Ani who is a former Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area was later rescued by the Police minutes after he had fought the criminals and sustained a series of injuries.
Confirming the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan said the suspects were arrested in Opitex guest house, Camp 29 in Anigheje in Akampka Local Government Area.
According to Alhassan, the kidnap kingpin was arrested alongside Denis Onyekachi and Edet Okon. The Police Commissioner echoed that his men are ready for criminals and they will get it hot.
“We are not making noise about our achievements, but this is a warning to all those involved in crime in the State; we will continue to smoke them out. We have never relented in our quest to sanitize every part of the State.
“It is either you stay away from crime while in Cross River or you leave because this place will be too hot for you to operate. Criminals must leave the State now or face the consequences as well as the full wrath of the law.”
According to a Police source who spoke to Vanguard News Nigeria, apart from Chief Ani’s failed attack, the group also kidnapped Mrs. Veronica wife of an Immigration Officer, as well as robbed Mr. Ikechukwu Nzie at Mary Slessor dispossessing him of his car (Toyota Corolla, 2005 model) amongst others valuables.
“Emperor was arrested alongside his second in command Denis Onyekachi, a.k.a Jagaban, and his Chief Striker, Edet Okon, the trio have confessed to various crimes including the kidnap incident in 2018, 2019, and so on,” the source revealed.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of his gang who are at large as well as recover their operational weapons and more.
Similarly, another kidnapper and arsonist who has been terrorizing Akpabuyo, Odukpani, and other environs were also apprehended by a tactical unit, Anti-Kidnaping and Cultism Squad in conjunction with Operation Akpakwu.
Vanguard News Nigeria also reports that in respect to a man-hunt at 8 Miles, outskirts of Calabar for the abductors of the owner of UDEC phones who was Kidnapped on last Tuesday in Calabar in his shop, one Henry Okokon, 22 years have been arrested.
Findings showed that he was arrested after attacking another family in their home while setting their house ablaze.
A source who pleaded anonymity said they vandalized the roof of their victims’’ house before kidnapping them.
