Justice Rosemary Dugbo of the Calabar division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday, ordered the continuous remand of Charles Oberu who is accused of leaking the sex tape of his ex lover, Gracious John at the Medium Security Custodial Center of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS in Afokang, Calabar after his bail hearing failed.
Mr. Oberu, 32, was arrested following a petition against him by the lawyer of Ms. John, a nursing student at the Cross River State School of Nursing, in Abi Local Government Area after three sexually explicit videos of her went viral.
He was docked before Justice Dugbo on two charges bordering on cybercrime and blackmail in suit number, FHC/CA/126C/2022 which he pleaded not guilty to on Tuesday. He was remanded in NCS custody.
And, upon resumption of trial on Wednesday, the prosecution counsel, O. Umoren Esq, sought an adjournment to file additional exhibits. He argued that the officer in charge of the exhibits at the Zone 6 command of the Nigeria Police Force was away on official duty when the case was filed.
The Court granted the prayer of the prosecution and adjourned until October 19, 2022 for continuation of trial.
Oberu, who was decked in the NCS green top and black trousers, and had shaved his signature beard, kept a fixed gaze during the proceedings. However, his face fell after he turned to his counsel, E. Ekpe Esq, and realized he was not going home.
The nominal complainant, dressed in a deep-green gown with black shoes and sporting a Bob Marley hairstyle, was accompanied by her father, a clergyman.
