Ndoma Egba Wins Lawmaker of the Year Award

Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba was at the weekend bestowed with the Legislator of the Year Award in the annual Hallmark Newspaper Awards in Lagos.

The prestigious award night which held at the Civic Center in Victorial Island also saw the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Okiro and several other prominent Nigerians receiving honors of achievement in different fields.

According to the award citation by the management of Hallmark Newspaper, Senator Ndoma Egba: “Was first elected to the Senate in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011; and has served in various standing and ad-hoc Senate Committees. He was Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Affairs in the 5th Senate and Deputy Senate Leader in the 6th Senate and currently Senate Leader. He chaired the senate Ad-Hoc Committee on the Petroleum Development Trust Fund and has sponsored 24 bills including the Freedom of Information Bill (FIB) which is now an act of the National Assembly, and several motions.

“He was a delegate to the United Nations 50th General Assembly, Leader of the Nigerian Delegation to the Association of Senates, Shooras and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab World (ASSECAA) and is currently a member of and Leader of the Nigerian delegation to the Pan African Parliament which sits in Midrand, South Africa.

“He is widely travelled and highly regarded. He is humble, unassuming and has a keen sense of humor and history. He was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2004, the first and only one so conferred from the National Assembly, and hold two National Honors; Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). He holds several other honors including the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award, and titles.

“Your Excellency, Madam Chairman, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, it is in recognition of the superlative performance of Senator Ndoma Egba and the quality of leadership he has shown in the hallowed chamber of the National Assembly that the Editorial Board of Hallmark Newspaper chose him as the Lawmaker of the Year 2013.”
