A youth group, ‘The Mandator’, has said that Hon. John Owan Enoh, member representing Etung-Obubra federal constituency in the House of Representatives has come of age to replace Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba in the red chamber of the National Assembly.

Coordinator of the group, Mr. Etaba Okpa Etaba made assertion when members of the group visited the Cross River State Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ntufam John Okon his office in Calabar recently.

He said the group was in the chairman’s office to commend him for the good work he has been doing since he assumed office as the party head.

The group which also commended the Senate Leader for his good work as a high ranking senator in the country from the State, said there is need for ‘active intervention for system change’ which the group said needs urgent strategy.

“The system is very sick and we need urgent intervention strategy to consolidate on what the chairman of the party and our amiable governor are doing.

“Mandator needs to support the Senate Leader to move from the Senate forward since he has occupied the seat for three consecutive terms of 12 years. May be he can be appointed as the Attorney General of the Federation.

“For the position of the Senator in the Central come 2015, Abi/Yakurr has enjoyed the seat, Ikom/Boki is enjoying it and we feel the only natural thing now is for Etung/Obubra to take its shot.

“We as Mandator believe that your son who has been doing very well, Hon John Owan Eno is qualified to take the Central Senatorial seat and we are supporting him to replace the Senate Leader.

“If two teams are playing and competing very well, there comes a time that the referee will have to award a penalty, foul and free kick which we are urging you to use your good office to decide on.” Etaba, the group leader said.

The PDP Chairman however responded that he has no power to stop the Senate Leader or any other aspirant to contest on the platform of the party provided such person meet the criteria of the party guidelines and the constitution adding that only the people of Central Senatorial District will decide who will represent them when the race is declared open by INEC.

He charged the group to preach against violence urging them to continue to support the party. Okon said PDP is the only party that can guarantee their future and not the ‘expired drug of the opposition APC’.

The party chairman who said all the representatives of the party are doing well in Abuja added that the people of the Central Senatorial District know what to do to any of their representatives who they feel is not doing enough and not him.

He said: “Please continue to embrace peace and eschew violence in our party and our state because Jaw Jaw is better than war war.

“All our representatives are doing very well and the people, not me will determine who will represent them in the central senatorial district.

“There will be no foul, no penalty and no free kick to be awarded by the party to any aspirant; it’s the people that will speak at the end of the day.

“Ours is to provide a platform and a level playing field that is transparent, free, fair and just.” he said.
